Set the Choir Free is an innovative teaching method that offers a new approach to choir leadership — moving away from traditional discipline and conducting, and toward a teaching flow characterized by two-way communication, co-creation, responsibility, and freedom. At the heart of the method lies the conviction that well-being and artistic quality are inseparable.
We don’t choose between wellbeing and great art.
We achieve one through the other.
Set The Choir Free is:
- A complete teaching method — embracing all aspects of choir leadership: classroom management, communication, relationship-building, teaching routines, musical tools, concert execution, energy, flow, development of choral arrangements, and more.
- A teaching platform in development — with the vision of going online in 2026. Through video courses, the platform will give choir leaders around the world access to the method’s pedagogical and musical tools, as well as the philosophy behind them.
- Proven in practice — tested on more than 3,000 children and young people in Denmark and used as the core method in the groundbreaking research project Alle Kan Synge (Everybody Can Sing).
- Evidence that well-being and learning go hand in hand — when we put well-being first, we not only strengthen the health of children and young people, but also elevate artistic quality.
- For all levels — a method created for children’s and youth choirs from beginners to elite ensembles, while also inspiring educators across subject areas and regardless of students’ age.

We are facing a children’s and youth culture where well-being is lower than ever before — not only in Denmark, but across the entire Western world. This is a development we cannot ignore.
Set the Choir Free introduces a new way of thinking, where well-being is the first and most essential foundation for all teaching. When we dare to place the mental and social well-being of children and young people at the forefront, we create stronger learning environments and more capable students — but most importantly, we meet a generation in urgent need of new, sustainable pedagogical approaches.
